The operation
Robotic myomectomy is performed under general anaesthetic.
The procedure is performed through a small number of tiny abdominal incisions using the da Vinci robotic surgical system. The surgeon controls robotic instruments from a console while viewing a highly magnified 3D image of the pelvis.
This technology allows extremely precise surgical movements, enabling fibroids to be carefully removed from deep within the uterine wall. The uterus is then reconstructed with layered sutures to restore strength and support future fertility where relevant.
Recovery
Most patients stay in hospital overnight. Light activity can usually resume within a few days, with many women returning to desk-based work within 2–3 weeks. Full recovery generally takes 4–6 weeks.
