Chelsea and Westminster Hospital NHS Foundation Trust has hosted the UK’s first dedicated conscious sedation training day in ambulatory gynaecology, bringing together clinicians for a programme focused on improving pain management and patient experience during outpatient gynaecological procedures.

The day combined expert teaching with seven live clinical cases, giving every delegate hands-on experience in how to deliver conscious sedation safely and effectively. Presentations also covered how to establish a conscious sedation service, the benefits for patients and hospitals, safe sedation protocols, and outcomes from the team’s own clinical practice.

For too long, pain during gynaecological procedures has too often been minimised or treated as something patients are simply expected to tolerate. Improving access to effective pain relief is an important part of delivering safer, more compassionate and more patient-centred care.

The training day was designed not only to share practical skills, but also to support a wider change in how ambulatory gynaecology approaches procedural pain. Delegates left with the knowledge and experience to help develop conscious sedation services within their own organisations and contribute to raising standards of care for women undergoing gynaecological procedures.

The day was co-hosted with Irina Stankeviciute, whose expertise and commitment helped make the programme possible, with support from Medtronic and KEBOMED UK.
